TBC Mining Leveling Guide 1–375

Mining is one of the most useful support professions in TBC. It feeds Blacksmithing, Engineering, Jewelcrafting, gold-making, and alt support through ore, bars, stone, motes, gems, and smelting.

This guide gives you a practical 1-375 Mining route with clickable skill ranges, recommended zones, smelting notes, node targets, profession pairings, and Wowhead-linked items for tooltips.

Important: Mining speed depends heavily on server population, route competition, mount speed, and whether you smelt ores or level only through gathering.

1. Why Level Mining in TBC?

Mining is valuable because several major professions depend on ore and bars.

Mining supports:

  • Blacksmithing weapon and armor crafting
  • Engineering parts, scopes, bombs, goggles, and utility items
  • Jewelcrafting through ore prospecting
  • Gold-making through raw ore, bars, stone, and gems
  • Alt support if your main uses a crafting profession

Common materials you will gather:

Mining is one of the safest professions to level if you are unsure what your character needs, because raw materials are always useful to someone.

2. Best Profession Pairings

Mining pairs best with professions that consume ore, bars, stone, or prospectable ore.

Best pairings:

  • Mining + Blacksmithing: weapons, plate armor, rods, sharpening stones, weightstones
  • Mining + Engineering: parts, explosives, scopes, repair bots, goggles, flying machines
  • Mining + Jewelcrafting: prospecting ore into gems and crafting jewellery

Good alt setup:

  • Mining on a farming alt
  • Blacksmithing / Engineering / Jewelcrafting on your main or crafting alt
  • Mail ore and bars across as needed

If your main is trying to min-max raid performance, Mining may eventually be replaced by a crafting profession. But while leveling, gearing, or funding expensive crafts, it is extremely useful.

3. Trainer Breakpoints

You need to train new Mining ranks as you level.

  • 1-75: Apprentice Mining
  • 75-150: Journeyman Mining
  • 150-225: Expert Mining
  • 225-300: Artisan Mining
  • 300-375: Master Mining

Master Mining trainers:

  • Alliance: Humphry in Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Horde: Krugosh in Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Neutral: Grutah in Shattrath City

Always train the next rank as soon as you are eligible so you do not waste node skill-ups.

4. Smelting vs Mining Nodes

Mining can be leveled two ways: gathering nodes in the world or smelting ore into bars near a forge.

Smelting is useful when:

  • You have ore banked already
  • Old-world zones are crowded
  • You want to push through awkward skill ranges
  • You are leveling Mining on an alt parked near a forge

Mining nodes is better when:

  • You want to make gold while leveling
  • You also need stone, gems, or rare ore
  • You do not want to buy ore from the Auction House
  • You are leveling naturally while questing

Smelting can help with early and mid-level Mining, but you cannot rely on smelting forever. Eventually, you need to mine actual nodes, especially in Outland.

5. Leveling 1-75: Apprentice Mining

This first bracket is all about Copper.

Main node:

Recommended zones:

  • Durotar
  • Dun Morogh
  • Elwynn Forest
  • Mulgore
  • Tirisfal Glades
  • Azuremyst Isle
  • Eversong Woods

Route advice:

  • Follow zone edges, cliffs, caves, and mountain lines
  • Keep Find Minerals active
  • Mine every Copper Vein you see
  • Smelt Copper if you need extra skill points

Copper is usually easy to farm because it appears in starter zones and low-level caves.

6. Leveling 75-150: Journeyman Mining

This bracket moves into Tin, Silver, and Iron.

Main nodes:

Main materials:

Recommended zones:

  • The Barrens
  • Loch Modan
  • Westfall
  • Redridge Mountains
  • Stonetalon Mountains
  • Hillsbrad Foothills
  • Thousand Needles

Route advice:

  • Move from Copper/Tin zones into Iron zones as your skill increases
  • Mine Tin and Silver when available
  • Start mining Iron when you are high enough
  • Smelt Bronze if you have Copper and Tin available

Silver nodes are uncommon. Do not build your route around Silver. Treat it as a bonus when you find it.

7. Leveling 150-225: Expert Mining

This bracket is mostly Iron, Gold, Mithril, and Truesilver.

Main nodes:

Main materials:

Recommended zones:

  • Arathi Highlands
  • Desolace
  • Badlands
  • Stranglethorn Vale
  • Alterac Mountains
  • Tanaris
  • Hinterlands

Route advice:

  • Use Iron-heavy zones until Mithril becomes reliable
  • Badlands is strong for Iron and Mithril routes
  • Tanaris and Hinterlands are good when transitioning into Mithril
  • Mine Truesilver when you see it, but do not rely on it

Mithril is often valuable because Blacksmithing and Engineering both consume large amounts of it.

8. Leveling 225-300: Artisan Mining

This bracket is mostly Mithril, Small Thorium, Rich Thorium, and rare Arcane Crystal value.

Main nodes:

Main materials:

Recommended zones:

  • Tanaris
  • Hinterlands
  • Searing Gorge
  • Burning Steppes
  • Un’Goro Crater
  • Winterspring
  • Eastern Plaguelands
  • Silithus

Route advice:

  • Mine Mithril until Thorium is reliable
  • Move into Thorium-heavy zones around the mid-to-late 200s
  • Rich Thorium Veins are valuable because of Arcane Crystal chances
  • Un’Goro, Winterspring, and Eastern Plaguelands are strong Thorium zones

The 250-300 range can feel slow if routes are contested. If your server is busy, try off-peak farming or less obvious zones.

9. Leveling 300-375: Master Mining

This is the Outland section. Fel Iron, Adamantite, Rich Adamantite, and Khorium are the main targets.

300-325: Fel Iron

Main node:

Main materials:

Recommended zones:

  • Hellfire Peninsula
  • Zangarmarsh
  • Terokkar Forest

Route advice:

  • Start in Hellfire Peninsula and follow mountain edges
  • Mine every Fel Iron Deposit
  • Smelt Fel Iron Bars if you need extra points
  • Move zones if Hellfire is too crowded

Fel Iron is used heavily by Blacksmithing and Engineering, so it is usually easy to sell.

325-350: Adamantite

Main nodes:

Main materials:

Recommended zones:

  • Nagrand
  • Blade’s Edge Mountains
  • Netherstorm
  • Shadowmoon Valley

Route advice:

  • Nagrand is a strong general Adamantite zone
  • Blade’s Edge has good mountain-edge routes
  • Netherstorm and Shadowmoon are strong later zones with high-value nodes
  • Mine Khorium whenever you see it

Adamantite is valuable for Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting. Check ore prices before smelting everything into bars.

350-375: Rich Adamantite and Khorium

Main nodes:

Main materials:

Best zones:

  • Netherstorm
  • Shadowmoon Valley
  • Blade’s Edge Mountains
  • Nagrand

Route advice:

  • Prioritise high-level Outland zones
  • Use a flying mount where possible
  • Mine every Rich Adamantite and Khorium node you see
  • Farm during off-peak times if routes are contested

Khorium is rare and valuable. Never ignore it, even if you are mainly farming Adamantite.

10. Best Outland Mining Zones

Outland mining routes depend on your level, mount speed, and competition.

Hellfire Peninsula:

  • Best for early Fel Iron
  • Good 300-325 zone
  • Often crowded because everyone starts here

Nagrand:

  • Strong Adamantite zone
  • Good open routes
  • Useful for players with ground mounts or flying mounts

Blade’s Edge Mountains:

  • Good mountain-based routes
  • Strong for Adamantite and higher-level farming
  • Better with flying

Netherstorm:

  • Excellent high-level mining zone
  • Good for Adamantite, Rich Adamantite, and Khorium
  • Often competitive but profitable

Shadowmoon Valley:

  • Strong high-end mining zone
  • Good for Rich Adamantite and Khorium
  • Can be dangerous depending on level and gear

11. Gold-Making Tips

Mining can make steady gold because so many professions need ore and bars.

Gold-making rules:

  • Check whether ore sells for more than bars before smelting
  • Jewelcrafters may pay more for ore because they can prospect it
  • Blacksmiths and Engineers may prefer bars
  • Stone can sell well because Engineering and Blacksmithing use it
  • Khorium and Eternium are often high-value materials
  • Old-world Thorium can still sell because of profession leveling

Do not automatically smelt everything. Ore can be worth more than bars when Jewelcrafters are buying for prospecting.

13. Quick Leveling Summary

  • 1-75: Copper Veins in starter zones
  • 75-125: Tin, Silver, and early Iron in low-mid zones
  • 125-175: Iron and Gold in Arathi, Badlands, Desolace, and Stranglethorn
  • 175-225: Mithril and Truesilver in Badlands, Tanaris, Hinterlands, and Searing Gorge
  • 225-250: Mithril into early Thorium
  • 250-300: Small Thorium and Rich Thorium in Un’Goro, Winterspring, Burning Steppes, Eastern Plaguelands, and Silithus
  • 300-325: Fel Iron in Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, and Terokkar
  • 325-350: Adamantite in Nagrand, Blade’s Edge, Netherstorm, and Shadowmoon Valley
  • 350-375: Rich Adamantite and Khorium in high-level Outland zones

Mining is one of the best support professions in TBC because it feeds three major crafting professions: Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Jewelcrafting.

Whether you are funding expensive crafts, prospecting ore for gems, making Engineering parts, or supporting a Blacksmithing weapon path, Mining gives you control over the materials instead of relying entirely on the Auction House.

Level Mining with a route, check ore versus bar prices before smelting, and use the materials where they actually improve your character or raid.
