TBC Jewelcrafting Leveling Guide 1–375

Jewelcrafting is one of the most important professions in TBC because sockets and gems are a major part of character optimisation. It lets you prospect ore, cut gems, craft rings, necklaces, trinkets, and support raid-ready gearing through proper gem choices.

This guide gives you a practical 1-375 Jewelcrafting route with clickable level ranges, rough craft counts, estimated materials, trainer breakpoints, prospecting notes, meta gem reminders, and Wowhead-linked items for tooltips.

1. Why Level Jewelcrafting in TBC?

Jewelcrafting matters because TBC gear has sockets, and gems are a direct part of your character’s performance.

Jewelcrafting lets you:

  • Prospect ore into gems
  • Cut red, yellow, blue, orange, purple, green, and meta gems
  • Craft rings, necklaces, trinkets, and statues
  • Support alts and guildmates with gem cuts
  • Make gold from high-demand raid gems
  • Help players fix empty sockets and inactive meta gems

Jewelcrafting is especially useful if you play the Auction House, support a raid team, or want control over your own gemming without relying on trade chat every time you get an upgrade.

Jewelcrafting naturally pairs with Mining. If you buy every gem and bar from the Auction House, the cost can swing hard depending on your server economy.

3. Trainer Breakpoints

You need to train new Jewelcrafting ranks as you level.

  • 1-75: Apprentice Jewelcrafting
  • 75-150: Journeyman Jewelcrafting
  • 150-225: Expert Jewelcrafting
  • 225-300: Artisan Jewelcrafting
  • 300-375: Master Jewelcrafting

Master Jewelcrafting trainers:

  • Alliance: Kalaen in Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Horde: Tatiana in Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Neutral: Lebowski in Shattrath City

When you reach 300 Jewelcrafting, train Master Jewelcrafting before continuing into Outland recipes.

4. Prospecting Basics

Prospecting destroys 5 ore and gives a chance at gems. This is one of the main ways Jewelcrafters get materials.

Common ore groups:

Prospecting is not guaranteed to give the exact gems you want. If you need a specific gem, compare the cost of prospecting ore versus buying the gem directly.

5. Leveling 1-75: Apprentice Jewelcrafting

This bracket uses Copper Bars, early gems, Rough Stone, and Delicate Copper Wire.

1-20: Delicate Copper Wire

Craft: Delicate Copper Wire

Approx crafts: 20-35

Estimated materials:

Keep these. Delicate Copper Wire is used in many early Jewelcrafting recipes.

20-30: Rough Stone Statue

Craft: Rough Stone Statue

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

30-50: Tigerseye Band or Malachite Pendant

Craft options: Inlaid Malachite Ring or Tigerseye Band

Approx crafts: 20-30

Estimated materials:

50-75: Bronze Setting

Craft: Bronze Setting

Approx crafts: 30-45

Estimated materials:

Keep these. Bronze Settings are used heavily in the next bracket.

Train Journeyman Jewelcrafting at 75.

6. Leveling 75-150: Journeyman Jewelcrafting

This section uses Bronze Settings, Shadowgems, Moss Agates, and early ring/neck crafts.

75-80: Solid Bronze Ring

Craft: Braided Copper Ring or Solid Bronze Ring

Approx crafts: 5-10

Estimated materials:

80-110: Ring of Silver Might / Gloom Band

Craft options: Heavy Iron Knuckles, Gloom Band, or trainer alternatives based on material prices

Approx crafts: 30-40

Estimated materials:

Use whichever trainer recipe is cheapest with your server’s gem prices. Shadowgem, Moss Agate, and Lesser Moonstone can swing heavily.

110-120: Heavy Stone Statue

Craft: Heavy Stone Statue

Approx crafts: 10-15

120-150: Pendant of the Agate Shield

Moss Agate is often expensive. If it is overpriced, compare other yellow/orange trainer recipes before committing.

Train Expert Jewelcrafting at 150.

7. Leveling 150-225: Expert Jewelcrafting

This bracket uses Mithril-era gems like Lesser Moonstone, Jade, Citrine, and Aquamarine.

150-180: Mithril Filigree

Craft: Mithril Filigree

Approx crafts: 30-45

Estimated materials:

Keep some Mithril Filigree. Several recipes use it.

180-200: Engraved Truesilver Ring or Citrine Ring

Craft options: Engraved Truesilver Ring or Citrine-based trainer alternatives

Approx crafts: 20-30

Estimated materials:

200-220: Aquamarine Signet

Craft: Aquamarine Signet

Approx crafts: 20-30

Estimated materials:

220-225: Citrine / Aquamarine Filler

Craft: use your cheapest orange/yellow recipe from the trainer.

Train Artisan Jewelcrafting at 225.

8. Leveling 225-300: Artisan Jewelcrafting

This section uses Thorium-era gems like Star Ruby, Blue Sapphire, Large Opal, Huge Emerald, and Azerothian Diamond.

225-250: Thorium Setting

Craft: Thorium Setting

Approx crafts: 25-40

Estimated materials:

Keep these. Thorium Setting is used by several higher recipes.

250-260: Ruby Pendant of Fire

Craft: Ruby Pendant of Fire

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

260-280: Simple Opal Ring / Sapphire Pendant

Craft options: Simple Opal Ring or Sapphire Signet

Approx crafts: 20-30

Estimated materials:

280-290: Diamond Focus Ring

Craft: Figurine - Emerald Owl or diamond/emerald trainer alternatives

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

290-300: Emerald Lion Ring / Onslaught Ring

At 300, stop and train Master Jewelcrafting in Outland.

9. Leveling 300-375: Master Jewelcrafting

This is where Jewelcrafting becomes directly tied to TBC sockets. Outland gems are the main bottleneck.

300-310: Fel Iron Blood Ring / Golden Draenite Cuts

Craft options: Fel Iron Blood Ring or early uncommon gem cuts

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

310-320: Fel Iron Setting

Craft: Thorium Setting is Classic; for TBC use available Outland setting/ring recipes from your trainer.

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

  • Fel Iron Bar x 20-30
  • Outland uncommon gems x 10-15 depending on recipe

If your trainer has cheap gem cuts available, cut whichever uncommon gem is cheapest on your server.

320-325: Azure Moonstone / Blood Garnet / Deep Peridot Cuts

Craft options: cut cheap uncommon Outland gems.

Approx crafts: 5-10

325-335: Mercurial Adamantite

Craft: Mercurial Adamantite

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

Mercurial Adamantite is useful later, but check the exact recipe and trainer availability on your realm before mass-buying materials.

335-350: Rare Gem Cuts or Heavy Adamantite Ring

Craft options: rare gem cuts or high-level ring/neck crafts based on recipe access.

Approx crafts: 15-25

Estimated materials:

This is where Jewelcrafting becomes server-price dependent. Sometimes cutting rare gems is cheaper. Sometimes jewellery crafts are better.

350-365: Rare Gem Cuts

Craft: cut high-demand rare gems.

Approx crafts: 15-25

Useful examples:

Do not cut random rare gems just because they give skill-ups. Cut gems that players actually buy.

365-375: Meta Gems or High-End Rare Cuts

Craft options: meta gem cuts, high-value rare cuts, or jewellery crafts depending on recipes.

Approx crafts: 10-20

Useful examples:

The final stretch can be profitable if you have desirable cuts. If you do not, it can be expensive. Recipe access matters more here than raw profession skill.

10. Meta Gems

Meta gems are one of the most important Jewelcrafting systems in TBC. They are powerful, but they only work if their activation requirements are met.

Common meta gem examples:

Before selling or using meta gems, remember:

  • The player needs a helmet with a meta socket
  • The player must meet the gem colour requirements
  • Gear swaps can accidentally deactivate the meta
  • An inactive meta is basically a wasted gem slot

This is one of the most common hidden gearing mistakes in TBC. A meta gem being socketed does not mean it is active.

11. Useful Endgame Cuts and Crafts

At 375, Jewelcrafting becomes useful because players constantly need new gems as they upgrade gear.
