TBC Engineering Leveling Guide 1–375

Updated 29 Apr 2026 Forum discussion

Engineering is one of the most useful utility professions in TBC. It gives access to explosives, goggles, scopes, repair bots, rocket boots, mote farming tools, trinkets, PvP gadgets, and class-specific value for Hunters, tanks, and utility-focused players.

This guide gives you a practical 1-375 Engineering route with clickable level ranges, rough craft counts, estimated materials, trainer breakpoints, specialisation notes, recipe links, and Wowhead-linked items for tooltips.

Quick Navigation

Important: material totals are estimates. Yellow and green recipes can take extra crafts, so keep a buffer instead of buying the exact minimum.

1. Why Level Engineering in TBC?

Engineering is not just a crafting profession. It is a utility profession. You level it for extra tools, movement, damage, farming, PvP tricks, ranged weapon upgrades, and convenience.

Engineering lets you craft:

  • Scopes for Hunter ranged weapons
  • Explosives and grenades
  • Engineering goggles
  • Repair bots
  • Rocket boots
  • Trinkets and gadgets
  • Mote farming tools
  • Flying machines

Engineering is especially attractive for Hunters, Warriors, Paladins, tanks, PvP players, and anyone who values utility over simple passive stats.

2. Estimated Full Shopping List

This shopping list is based on the route below. Engineering uses many intermediate parts, so do not sell parts unless the guide tells you they are no longer needed.

Estimated stone and ore materials:

Estimated cloth, leather, and vendor materials:

Optional / route-dependent materials:

Engineering naturally pairs with Mining. If you buy every bar from the Auction House, this profession can get expensive quickly.

3. Trainer Breakpoints

You need to train new Engineering ranks as you level.

  • 1-75: Apprentice Engineering
  • 75-150: Journeyman Engineering
  • 150-225: Expert Engineering
  • 225-300: Artisan Engineering
  • 300-375: Master Engineering

Master Engineering trainers:

  • Alliance: Ockil in The Exodar
  • Horde: Danwe in Silvermoon City
  • Alliance Outland: Finbus Geargrind in Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Horde Outland: Rohok is Alchemy, not Engineering — use your faction Engineering trainer instead if available

Check your faction trainer before heading to Outland. Engineering trainer locations can be awkward if you are relying on memory from later expansions.

4. Important Schematics

Some Engineering recipes are trainer-taught, while others come from vendors, drops, quests, or reputation.

Important Engineering schematics and items:

Engineering is not only about hitting 375. The profession gets much more useful when you collect the right schematics.

The final 5 points are not just about the cheapest craft. Pick something useful or sellable if possible.

10. Goblin vs Gnomish Engineering

Engineering has two specialisations: Goblin Engineering and Gnomish Engineering. Both are mostly about flavour, gadgets, and specific toys, but the choice can still matter depending on what you want.

Goblin Engineering tends to fit players who like:

  • Explosives
  • Big damage gadgets
  • Goblin-style risk and chaos
  • PvP burst tools

Gnomish Engineering tends to fit players who like:

  • Control gadgets
  • Utility items
  • Fun trinkets
  • Unpredictable PvP tools

Do not pick a specialisation without checking the specific items you want. The wrong choice can block you from crafting certain gadgets without extra work.

11. Useful Endgame Engineering Items

Once you hit 375, Engineering becomes useful because of the tools, not just the skill number.

Hunter and ranged weapon value:

Utility and raid convenience:

Flying machines:

Goggles and headpieces:

Engineering value depends heavily on how you play. A player who uses the tools well gets more from Engineering than someone who only wants passive stats.

12. How EpicForge Helps

Engineering ties into raid prep, ranged weapon upgrades, crafted headpieces, utility choices, and profession planning.

Use EpicForge to:

  • Check whether Engineering goggles are an actual upgrade for your character
  • Compare scopes and ranged weapon upgrades for Hunters
  • Use Raid Check to find missing enchants, gems, scopes, and preparation gaps
  • Use Raid Planner to organise your team and identify where utility matters
  • Review BiS and wish list items before spending gold on expensive Engineering crafts
  • Track linked alts that can mine, craft, or support your main

Engineering gives you tools. EpicForge helps you work out whether those tools actually improve your character or raid.

Why This Matters

Engineering is not the profession you pick because it gives one simple stat bonus. You pick it because it gives you tools other players do not have.

Scopes, repair bots, goggles, explosives, rocket boots, mote extraction, flying machines, and PvP gadgets all make Engineering one of the most interesting professions in TBC.

Level it with a plan, keep the parts you craft, and use the profession actively instead of treating it like a passive bonus.
