TBC Tailoring Leveling Guide 1–375

Updated 29 Apr 2026 Forum discussion

Tailoring is one of the strongest professions in TBC for cloth casters and healers. It supports early raid gearing, bags, spellthreads, cloth cooldowns, and powerful crafted sets like Spellfire, Shadoweave, and Primal Mooncloth.

This guide gives you a practical 1-375 Tailoring route with clickable level ranges, rough craft counts, estimated materials, trainer breakpoints, recipe notes, and Wowhead-linked items for tooltips.

Quick Navigation

Important: material totals are estimates. Yellow and green recipes can take extra crafts, so keep a buffer instead of buying the exact minimum.

1. Why Level Tailoring in TBC?

Tailoring is valuable because many cloth classes can use crafted gear very early in TBC, and some of it remains strong for a long time.

Tailoring lets you craft:

  • Cloth caster and healer gear
  • Spellfire, Shadoweave, and Primal Mooncloth sets
  • Spellthreads for caster and healer leg enchants
  • Bags for yourself, alts, and gold-making
  • Specialised cloth cooldown materials
  • Useful pre-raid and early raid pieces

Tailoring is especially strong for Mages, Warlocks, Shadow Priests, Holy / Discipline Priests, and some Balance or Restoration Druids depending on gearing path.

2. Estimated Full Shopping List

This shopping list is based on the route below. Buy in chunks if your Auction House prices are unstable.

Estimated cloth:

Estimated extra materials:

Estimated TBC materials:

Tailoring uses huge amounts of cloth. If Netherweave is expensive, farm humanoids, check dungeon cloth drops, or buy in stages instead of purchasing everything at once.

3. Trainer Breakpoints

You need to train new Tailoring ranks as you level.

  • 1-75: Apprentice Tailoring
  • 75-150: Journeyman Tailoring
  • 150-225: Expert Tailoring
  • 225-300: Artisan Tailoring
  • 300-375: Master Tailoring

Master Tailoring trainers:

  • Alliance: Hama in Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Horde: Dalinna in Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula
  • Neutral: Jack Trapper in Shattrath City

When you reach 300 Tailoring, train Master Tailoring before continuing into Outland recipes.

4. Important Vendor Recipes

Some recipes are optional, but they can make leveling smoother depending on your server prices.

Useful recipe links:

Some TBC tailoring recipes are reputation-gated or vendor-specific. Check the recipe source before planning your last 25 points around it.

5. Leveling 1-75: Apprentice Tailoring

This bracket is mostly Linen Cloth. Save your bolts, because you use them in later crafts.

Approx crafts: 20-30

Estimated materials:

At 300, stop and train Master Tailoring in Outland.

9. Leveling 300-375: Master Tailoring

This is the TBC section. Netherweave Cloth is the main bottleneck, and later recipes may use Arcane Dust and Netherweb Spider Silk.

300-325: Bolt of Netherweave

Estimated materials for Arcanoweave Boots route:

The final 5-10 points can be expensive. Pick the route based on your recipe access and server prices.

10. Tailoring Specialisations

At 350 Tailoring, you can choose a specialisation. This matters because each specialisation gives bonus cloth production and access to special tailor-only gear.

The three specialisations are:

  • Spellfire Tailoring: focused on Spellcloth and the Spellfire caster set
  • Shadoweave Tailoring: focused on Shadowcloth and the Shadoweave caster set
  • Mooncloth Tailoring: focused on Primal Mooncloth and healer-oriented gear

Special cloth examples:

Any Tailor with the required skill can make the special cloth, but the matching specialisation gives extra cloth from the same materials.

11. Useful Endgame Tailoring Crafts

At 375, Tailoring becomes a serious gearing profession, especially for casters and healers.

Major tailoring sets:

Spellthread examples:

Bag examples:

Tailoring is strongest when the crafted set actually fits your class and spec. Do not pick a specialisation just because it sounds popular.

12. How EpicForge Helps

Tailoring ties directly into gear planning, BiS tracking, raid prep, and character investment.

Use EpicForge to:

  • Check whether crafted Tailoring gear is actually an upgrade
  • Compare Spellfire, Shadoweave, or Primal Mooncloth pieces against your BiS path
  • Review missing spellthreads, gems, enchants, and gear gaps
  • Use Raid Check to catch unfinished characters before raid
  • Use Raid Planner to organise your roster and see who needs support
  • Track linked alts that can craft cloth, bags, or support your main

Tailoring helps build strong caster and healer gear. EpicForge helps you see whether that investment actually improves your character.

Why This Matters

Tailoring is one of the most important TBC professions for cloth casters and healers because it gives access to powerful crafted gear, special cloth cooldowns, spellthreads, and bags.

For the right spec, Tailoring can shape your early raid gearing path. For the wrong spec, it can become an expensive mistake.

Level it with a plan, choose the right specialisation, and check whether the crafted gear actually fits your character before spending the gold.
