TBC Alchemy Leveling Guide 1–375

Updated 29 Apr 2026 Forum discussion

Alchemy is one of the most useful professions in TBC. It supports raiding, gold-making, PvP, alts, and weekly progression through potions, elixirs, flasks, protection potions, transmutes, and specialisations.

This guide gives you a practical 1-375 Alchemy route with rough craft counts, estimated materials, trainer breakpoints, recipe links, and Wowhead tooltips so you can level efficiently without blindly wasting gold.

Quick Navigation

Important: material totals are estimates. Yellow and green recipes can take extra crafts, so always keep a small buffer instead of buying the exact minimum.

1. Why Level Alchemy in TBC?

Alchemy is useful because almost every serious raider uses consumables every week.

Alchemy lets you craft:

  • Flasks for progression raiding
  • Battle and Guardian Elixirs
  • Mana, healing, haste, destruction, and protection potions
  • Transmutes used by other professions
  • Alchemist Stone trinkets
  • Cauldrons for raid support

If you raid often, Alchemy can save gold. If you play the Auction House, it can make gold. If you support alts, it is one of the most useful professions to have somewhere on your account.

2. Estimated Full Shopping List

This is a practical shopping list for the route below. Buy slightly more than listed if you want to avoid stopping halfway through because of unlucky skill-ups.

Estimated Classic herbs:

Estimated Outland herbs:

Estimated vials:

Do not buy the full list blindly if your Auction House is expensive. Check each level bracket first and buy in chunks.

3. Trainer Breakpoints

You need to train new Alchemy ranks as you level.

  • 1-75: Apprentice Alchemy
  • 75-150: Journeyman Alchemy
  • 150-225: Expert Alchemy
  • 225-300: Artisan Alchemy
  • 300-375: Master Alchemy

Master Alchemy trainers:

When you hit 300 Alchemy, stop and train Master Alchemy before continuing into Outland recipes.

4. Leveling 1-75: Apprentice Alchemy

This first bracket is simple and cheap. The key is to keep the Minor Healing Potions because you use them in the next step.

1-60: Minor Healing Potion

Craft: Minor Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 60-65

Estimated materials:

Keep these potions. Do not vendor them. They are used for Lesser Healing Potions.

60-75: Lesser Healing Potion

Craft: Lesser Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 15-20

Estimated materials:

Train Journeyman Alchemy once you reach 75.

5. Leveling 75-150: Journeyman Alchemy

This bracket moves from early healing potions into mana potions. Watch Briarthorn and Stranglekelp prices because both can fluctuate.

75-110: Lesser Healing Potion

Craft: Lesser Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 35-40

Estimated materials:

110-140: Healing Potion

Craft: Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 30-35

Estimated materials:

140-150: Lesser Mana Potion

Craft: Lesser Mana Potion

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

Train Expert Alchemy once you reach 150.

6. Leveling 150-225: Expert Alchemy

This bracket has several useful crafts but can become expensive if Goldthorn spikes. Buy carefully.

150-155: Lesser Mana Potion

Craft: Lesser Mana Potion

Approx crafts: 5-10

Estimated materials:

155-185: Greater Healing Potion

Craft: Greater Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 30-35

Approx crafts: 5-8

Estimated materials:

215-225: Superior Healing Potion

Craft: Superior Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 10-15

Estimated materials:

Train Artisan Alchemy once you reach 225.

7. Leveling 225-300: Artisan Alchemy

This is the final Classic-era stretch. Some crafts are not exciting, but they can be cheaper than forcing expensive recipes.

225-230: Superior Healing Potion

Craft: Superior Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 5-8

Estimated materials:

230-265: Elixir of Detect Undead

Craft: Elixir of Detect Undead

Approx crafts: 35-40

Estimated materials:

This is a cheap bridge if Arthas’ Tears are low-priced. It is not exciting, but it works.

265-285: Superior Mana Potion

Craft: Superior Mana Potion

Approx crafts: 20-25

Estimated materials:

285-300: Major Healing Potion

Craft: Major Healing Potion

Approx crafts: 15-20

Estimated materials:

Once you reach 300, train Master Alchemy in Outland before continuing.

8. Leveling 300-375: Master Alchemy

This is where Alchemy starts producing proper TBC consumables. Many of these can actually sell, so check the Auction House before vendoring anything.

300-315: First Outland Crafts

Recommended crafts:

Approx crafts: 15-20

Estimated materials:

Pick the cheapest option based on your server. This bracket has flexibility.

315-330: Elixir of Healing Power

Approx crafts: 15-20

Estimated materials:

330-335: Elixir of Draenic Wisdom

Craft: Elixir of Draenic Wisdom

Estimated materials:

340-355: Super Mana Potion

Craft: Super Mana Potion

Recipe: Recipe: Super Mana Potion

Approx crafts: 15-25

Estimated materials:

This recipe is vendor-based and Bind on Pickup in TBC Classic, so your Alchemist needs to buy it directly.

355-375: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion

Craft: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion

Recipe: Recipe: Major Dreamless Sleep Potion

Approx crafts: 20-35

Estimated materials:

Alternative: if your server has strong caster demand, Elixir of Major Shadow Power can be a better-value late route because Warlocks and Shadow Priests may actually buy it.

9. Alchemy Specialisations

At level 68 and 325 Alchemy, you can choose an Alchemy specialisation.

The three options are:

  • Potion Master: chance to craft extra potions
  • Elixir Master: chance to craft extra elixirs or flasks
  • Transmutation Master: chance to craft extra transmute results

Pick based on your goal:

  • Raid consume seller: Elixir Master or Potion Master
  • Personal raiding support: Potion Master or Elixir Master
  • Passive gold-making: Transmutation Master
  • Alt army economy: Transmutation Master can be very convenient

Do not pick a specialisation randomly. It affects your long-term gold-making and crafting value.

10. Useful Endgame Alchemy Crafts

Once you hit 375, the real value of Alchemy is not the number. It is what you can make with it.

Raid flasks:

High-demand potions:

Important transmutes:

Alchemist Stone examples:

This is where Alchemy becomes more than a leveling profession. It becomes part of raid prep, gold-making, and character maintenance.

11. How EpicForge Helps

Alchemy ties directly into raid readiness. Your raid can have good gear but still lose performance if players show up without proper consumables.

Use EpicForge to:

  • Check your character’s gear before deciding which consumes matter most
  • Use Raid Planner to organise your group before raid
  • Use Raid Check to catch missing prep, weak gems, missing enchants, and roster gaps
  • Review BiS and upgrade recommendations before spending gold on professions
  • Track linked characters and alts that support your main

Alchemy helps you make the consumes. EpicForge helps you see who is actually raid-ready.

Why This Matters

Alchemy is one of the best support professions in TBC because it touches almost every part of raid preparation.

Flasks, elixirs, potions, transmutes, cauldrons, and specialisations all matter. Whether you are saving gold, making gold, or keeping your raid supplied, Alchemy is worth understanding properly.

Level it with a plan, choose the right specialisation, and use it to support real raid readiness.
